Aims

 

  

This project aims to establish the definition of cinema in terms of technology, both as a cultural technique and technological medium by more specifically categorizing it into: ‘Tool,’ ‘Culture,’ and ‘Medium.’  



 

 


 
Research Themes

Techno-Hegemony 


The research topic of Techno-Hegemony explores the hegemonical of cinema technology for establishing the concept of cinema technology as a tool. The cinema as a tool includes all kinds of analog and digital moving image technologies used for making, screening, transforming, and distributing motion pictures. Our research will provide an understanding of the sociocultural history of cinematic devices concerning from their emergence and development to their death.
Based on this, our research will ultimately purpose to establish the hegemonical aspect of cinema technology by exploring it as the most dynamic and determining role which it play in the aesthetic, industrial, and sociocultural changes of cinema including cinematic languages and styles, film policies, and spectatorship.

Techno-Culture

 

The research topic of Techno-Culture aims to establish the definition of cinema technology as culture. For this purpose, we will look closely at the way in which technologies are represented in relation to humans and the civilization.
Since its beginning, cinema has questioned the relationship between humans and technologies, and also illuminated, both in terms of dystopian and utopian perspectives, the future of human beings, imaging and visualizing future technologies yet unrealized.
Based on such an understanding, this study will derive a techno-humanistic understanding of the cultural, social, and political relation between human and technology.

Techno-Art

 

The research topic of Techno-Art aims to establish the definition of cinema technology as a medium by particularly exploring the influence it has on forms and styles, narratives, and finally spectatorship.
For this aim, we will examine the way in which the concept of cinema as a medium to make moving images of the world and represent has formed and expanded since its inception by such cinema technologies as: sound technology, color film, 3D and 4D, widescreen, Dolby sound system, special effects and digital visual effects.
